Behind the scenes (7)

Well then, this is it, the final pre-launch update! Today, we’re showing off this fierce lady, again without really giving any sort of readily available information. I am willing to disclose that she will definitely be part of the story.

Right now, Rudy and I are breaking for lunch, after which we’ll get right back to polishing up the pages we intend to publish tomorrow (tomorrow! How did that get here so fast?!); checking for errors in the backgrounds and pallettes, spelling, punctuation et cetera. Metaphorically, you could say that we’re giving the floor a quick sweep and blowing on the paint to make it dry before the grand opening.

Speaking of speech (and details in general), you are welcome to let us know in the comments-section if, when and where we made mistakes. Even though we’re initially publishing the comic in (UKSE) English, we’re not native speakers; it’s entire possible we might slip up every now and then. We value your input! You’re also encouraged to make wild guesses in the comment-section – but if you’re somehow privy to information regarding upcoming in-world events, we respectfully urge you to avoid spoilers.

Be sure to check in… tomorrow! Bring your friends!

The end of the month draws near, and with it, the end of the pre-launch glimpses behind the scenes! As stated before, we might continue to show you parts of the process – but by then Waterfront should already be in full swing.

I feel that this is as good a time as any to give you a preliminary update-schedule: we’d like to begin by setting you up with a couple of pages of the comic at the start, so as to get a nice flow going. After that, we’ll initially update once per week, with the goal of increasing that to twice per week, time permitting.

I don’t mind admitting that both Rudy and myself are new to the wonderful world of webcomics, and as such we’re still really trying to find our footing. We just genuinely hope you’ll continue to accompany us on our journey, we still have many stories to tell you along the way. Maybe we’ll get to read some of yours in the comment-section!

Check back soon… for the final pre-launch update!

PS: bonus-art! But say, who’s that? She looks familiar, haven’t we seen her in an old image-header somewhere?

Ah, there you are!

With four more days til launch-day, Rudy decided to give the site a nice overhaul. Probably not the last overhaul either, as we’re hoping to make this site mobile-friendly as well! But say, who is that mysterious man in the featured image?

Without giving away too much in the way of details, that would be an early draft for a recurring character, introduced by Rudy. While I’m in charge of the storylines, characters, the scripts and most of the world-building, Rudy’s input matters a great deal. Every now and then, he’ll come up with an idea or a character of his own, asking me “would this work?”, and more often than not, we can easily make it work. “Would this work?” is also a question I ask Rudy when I’m reading a panel or a few lines of character-interactions out loud; I value feedback and creative input.

Back to the images at hand! Will there be actual mermaids? Will there be metaphorical mermaids?

Maybe. Check back in soon, you might find out!

PS: if you’re as hyped as we are (and we certainly hope you are), feel free to share this link with friends and loved ones!

Six more days to go! To fully immerse yourselves, imagine a rich blend of ambient scents and sounds. The smell of buttered popcorn and the ocean breeze, the chattering of gulls, the creaking wood of a massive ship as it gently rocks on the waves, the murmur of a crow, punctuated by “ooh”s and “aah”s. For visual aid, imagine the faces above being part of the crowd!

I almost wasn’t going to use “buttered” as an adjective, because dairy is one of those things we had to reinvent. Rudy and I had to get very creative with several things that we as land-dwellers take for granted – we really hope those gambles will pay off (and not, you know, come off too heavy-handed), although of course, you are welcome to let us know in the comment-sections.

Meanwhile, there’s that character again, running through different stages of panel-completion!

Run, whoever you are! But wait, we stil haven’t caught your name!

As an aside, I really don’t think I’m giving Rudy enough credit here, because he’s working hard to get everything coloured in as well. So how about it, some colour-updates next? Check back soon!

With only eight more days to go, we thought it might be nice to show you a very literal look behind the scenes – behold, the mysterious door to our spacious office! You may have read the description in the “About Us”-page, but we really are located in a former prison-building. Currently we share a single cell-turned-office/shop-space. We plan to move to a new location within this building soon, but for now – this works!

Behold Rudy, drawing the drawings!

Behold Richard, writing the writings!

Behold Richard again, exhausted from rearranging some words!

Rudy and I each have our own workplace, but this is where we convene each week to talk scripts, events, storyboards and pages. There’s one more wall to show you, the one adjacent to my desk – but it’s plastered with sketches and storylines, and, well… spoilers!

We hope you enjoyed this little tour, such as it was. There’s more actual art on the way, check back in soon!
